JCB 550-170 reach stacker
Designed and developed using our Efficient Design philosophy, the JCB 550-170 is a full-sized 4-stage telescopic handler with a huge reach. It uses our award-winning new EcoMAX engine and sits on a chassis that’s designed for load-bearing and stability.
The 550-170’s all-new EcoMAX engine meets Stage IIIB/Tier 4i legislation without using a bulky DPF, which, in turn, brings benefits like great visibility, low running costs and more uptime. To increase productivity still further, there’s a variable-speed cooling fan on 109hp (81kW) engine.
A 550-170 Loadall is an extremely maneuverable telescopic handler; the compact wheelbase and large steering lock angles save you valuable travel time on site.
JCB’s new efficient EcoMAX T4i motor produces its power and torque at low engine speeds for great responsiveness, and our wide range of Construction Loadall models means you can find the perfect machine for your requirements.
There’s excellent rearward visibility on a 550-170, courtesy of a low boom profile and low boom pivot.
The 550-170 comes with 4WD as standard, helping you maintain plenty of traction and performance even in soft, muddy areas. There’s also an optional transmission dump on the foot brake for superb multi-functioning when loading or re handling.
We’ve fitted a variable-speed cooling fan to our 109hp (81kW) Loadall engine.
Our Vertical Integration Strategy is all about making sure the engine, transmission, hydraulic rams and cab of every new telescopic handler work in perfect harmony. These key components are therefore JCB-designed for minimum compromise and optimum performance.
The 550-170 Loadall has three selectable steer modes. There’s two wheel steer, which is ideal for traveling at high speed on the road; four-wheel steer for working in tight spaces; and crab steer for maneuvering close to walls and buildings.
JCB’s EcoMAX motor produces high levels of power and torque even at engine speeds as low as 1400-1600rpm, which means that a JCB Construction Loadall can provide fuel-efficient matching of transmission and hydraulics.
Because EcoMAX doesn’t use exhaust after-treatment, it doesn’t need costly heat-resistant lube oils or Adblue, saving servicing costs. And, because EcoMAX can be adapted to run on lower-grade fuels, the 550-170 is resalable across different territories, which boost residuals.
A JCB 550-170 telescopic handler is a great asset in so many respects, not least financially – huge global demand, plus legendary productivity and superb build quality equals maximum resale value.
High back-off brakes reduce viscous drag during roading and re handling, which improves fuel economy on these telescopic handlers by up to 2%.
A JCB 550-170 Loadall is fitted with a tough inverted U-shaped boom pressing with fully welded closing plates. For extra strength we limit the number of joints and stress points across our integrated boom nose and one-piece closing plate.
The boom on a 550-170 is mounted low in the chassis, providing a rigid structure and maximum over-the-shoulder visibility. Hoses are routed through the boom for maximum protection, while boom overlaps of up to 1.0m ensure ultimate strength and durability.
Side-mounted recessed bonnets and fold-up rear lights are designed to avoid on-site damage to your telescopic handler.
The new 550-170 telescopic handler’s stringent testing program has included prolonged high stress loading of the chassis, boom and other key components, as well as repeated transmission use over thousands of cycles.
To prove how good our EcoMAX engines are, we’ve tested them for 110,000 hours in 70 different machines across the toughest applications and environments.
A one-piece fully welded chassis maximizes the strength and minimizes the weight of the JCB 550-170.
New instruments and a hi-res TFT screen form an intuitive automotive-style layout in the new 550-170 Loadall cab, while backlit switches are crystal clear even in the dark.
Visibility on a 550-170 telescopic handler is excellent, courtesy of a cleverly-packaged driveline and sloping hood.
The new-look exterior of the 550-170 Loadall isn’t purely cosmetic; the cooling fan airflow is now angled upwards, reducing dust build-up.
The exterior top door slam latch is new – you can now close the upper door from outside.
On bright days, standard-fit tinted cab glass will reflect 30% of the sun’s energy for enhanced operator comfort.
An improved rear window seal provides positive closure; this keeps dust and debris out of the 550-170’s cab.
A productivity-enhancing 7-speed fan optimizes heating and cooling in the cab of the 550-170 telescopic handler.
The cab is one of the largest around, boasting class-leading low noise levels; excellent air flow, ventilation and de misting; optional air conditioning; fully adjustable steering column and optional suspension seat.
For quick, easy and safe access, the JCB 550-170 has a three-point access.
Hose burst check valves on the rams prevent collapse if a hose fails, and JCB Adaptive Load Control system is automatically activated to control the boom functions to help maintain the longitudinal stability of your 550-170 Loadall.
The seat safety switch on the 550-170 disables forward and reverse when an operator leaves their seat; this prevents inadvertent operation.
A JCB 550-170 comes equipped with a full set of side and rear view mirrors for all round visibility and safety compliance. For extra safety, a reverse alarm is standard-fit too.
Our Loadall security system is JCB Livelink telematics vehicle tracker, and an immobilizer. Besides providing peace of mind.
The 550-170’s factory-fit immobilizer arms itself after a certain period following engine shutdown. Choose your activation method from a unique key or 4-digit keypad.
The immobilizer on a 550-170 Loadall always synchronises with the ECU before starting the engine, providing increased theft protection.
Backlit switches are clearly visible, even at night or in low visibility.
All daily checks and greasing on a 550-170 Loadall can be carried out at ground level; engine oil, hydraulic and fuel filters are centrally located for convenience. The air filter is also easily accessible, and easy to clean.
For fast, easy inspection of 3 sides of the engine, this telescopic handler has a large, wide service bay, accessed by a gas-assisted hood.
You can access a 550-170 Loadall’s battery easily (and without specialist tools) via a lockable cover that’s opened with the ignition key.
The diesel tank is also easy to get to, and can be filled from ground level. For protection from dirty fuel, there’s an integral pre-filter in the filler neck.
A dry lubricant system means the 550-170’s wear pads are extremely durable, with service intervals of 500 hours – compared to around 250 hours on typical competitor machines.
Most Tier 4i engines use a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) or SCR, requiring additional AdBlue fluid level maintenance – EcoMAX doesn’t.
The 550-170’s cab air intake filter is easier than ever to access and replace.
